William Joseph Martin Joel, (aka Billy Joel) was born in 1949 in the Bronx New York and was raised in his beloved Long Island. His father Helmut (Howard) was born in Germany and his mother Rosiland was born in England. Billy is Jewish.
While being taunted by bullies, Billy took up boxing to defend himself. He ended up boxing successfully and won 22 bouts before quitting when he broke his nose in his 24th bout.
